“Gym got serious” at Preston Farm Industrial Estate as the big chain launches its new 18,000 sq ft facility after months of transformation work.
Located in the former TruGym, which has been closed since May 2023, the 24/7 JD Gyms now boasts everything from an Eleiko activity area and a sled track to a dedicated glute area.
The first pictures from inside JD Gyms Stockton South show the hundreds of pieces of equipment on offer, including short bars, free weights areas and Eleiko activity areas.
The gym is also decorated with lots of mirrors and LED lights, as well as a dedicated JD Studio with a different selection of weights and other equipment.
The gym’s mezzanine level offers a range of cardio equipment, from treadmills and rowing machines to bikes, as well as a dedicated toning area for core exercises.
Doors opened to the site at 10am on Wednesday 28 August, but prospective members were also invited to stop by the day before to get a feel for the new gym.
The gym will now host hundreds of classes a month for members, including a custom HIIT bootcamp concept dubbed JD Burn.
The JD Gyms unit has been months in the making, following the sudden closure of TruGym last year, which came just months after the chain raised fees in the wake of the Covid outbreak and cost-of-living crisis.
JD Gyms CEO Alun Peacock previously said: “Stockton-on-Tees is a fantastic location for us and we are delighted to be able to offer people in the area a brand new gym following the closure of TruGym.
