It’s been a few years since we saw a new drop from Whoop, and many users are now asking the same question: “When is Whoop 5.0 coming out?”

The leading fitness device has an army of loyal fans – from professional athletes to those just starting out on their fitness journey – and is hailed as one of the most high-tech pieces of equipment you can buy.

What makes Whoop special is its ability to use biometrics to provide unique personalized insights into your health, fitness, rest and sleep. But with rumors of version 5.0 on the horizon, can we expect to see even more detailed measurements and new innovations from the brand?

From potential new features to release date and cost, we’ve taken a deep dive into the rumored launch – here’s everything we know so far.

When will Whoop 5.0 be released?

The brand hasn’t given us any confirmed dates, although rumor has it that the new band will drop in the final months of 2024. Given the time between the introduction of Whoop 3.0 and 4.0, it’s probably safe to assume that we have a new repeat any day. Plus, as other trackers catch on and develop new features, Whoop, known for its innovation, will undoubtedly be ahead of the curve.

What to expect from Whoop 5.0

Rumors about the new Whoop Band are rife, but here’s what we know so far. The new band will likely offer advanced tracking capabilities (possibly due to new and improved sensors), a slimmer and sleeker design, and the ability to withstand more wear and tear. We’re also confident we’ll see better battery life and charging, along with more integrations for other tech, apps and accessories to support fitness and wellness. Here’s what the rumors say about new features and what we can expect from Whoop 5.0.

Improved sensors

According to rumors, the Whoop 5.0 will have new sensors that test new biometrics such as UV exposure and hydration levels. This will make all the difference, especially if you’re training in hot weather and want to stay on top to avoid dehydration and burnout.

The new band is also rumored to be introducing a NIRS (near-infrared spectroscopy) sensor. This would provide a more accurate picture of your body measurements, which as we know, simply entering your height and weight, often cannot be calculated. More detailed measurements can help provide better feedback about your exercise capacity and rest needs. Whoop 5.0 now offers five LED sensors, each of which we expect to improve somewhat as well.

We could also be looking at an updated accelerometer to track movement. These high-resolution measurements can give you much more accurate information about specific exercises that involve isolated movements like weight training and Pilates, for example.

The most awaited feature is accurate blood pressure measurement. This add-on would step up the game in terms of health metrics and give you continuous, easy-to-track cardiovascular health updates. Whoop 4.0 now offers feedback on resting heart rate, breathing rate, blood oxygen and skin temperature so adding accurate blood pressure monitoring could be a serious step up.

And of course, we know that the brand’s creators are constantly pushing for more accurate measurements so it’s likely that there will be better accuracy for the current measurements as well. Whoop is known for its ability to monitor stress levels and calculate how much rest is needed, and heart rate (HRV) is the star when it comes to providing this data. Improving this metric would push Whoop even further as a leader in the wearables market, so we expect improvements from 5.0.

New design

Could it be even smaller with a slim profile? The brand shaved more than 30 percent off its predecessor’s size with the 4.0, so it’s safe to assume we’ll see an even more streamlined and lightweight iteration in the 5.0. We expect to see new straps and hardware combinations from the brand’s design team as well. 4.0 was customizable and we expect 5.0 to be even more so.

Woo evangelists don’t have to worry about adding a screen. The brand’s founder, Will Ahmed, has said many times that Whoop will always be a performance company and never a smartwatch company, so you can allay any fears about a chunky band with a smart face.

Better loading

As with any wearable update, we’ll be looking to the brand for confirmation on longer battery life and perhaps faster charging as well. The Whoop charger is pretty smart right now, but a completely wireless charging experience would be a game changer, especially for those who are always on the go.

Will Whoop 5.0 cost more?

The jury is out on whether the latest band from Whoop will cost more and whether there could be an upgrade fee. The app currently runs on a subscription basis with a fixed price per month and the band is free with your subscription. Of course, if you want to replace the color of your strap with a different design, new straps are an additional cost. There are also add-ons and accessories from Whoop body that can be added to your line and these cost extra.

The Verdict: Ugh 5.0

While Whoop 4.0 has brought us new ways to think about and track our overall health, we’re eager to see if the latest version of the fitness tracker will live up to the hype and deliver even more benefits than the last. We’ve been told to expect innovations in variable tracking, new insights, a sleeker design, and hopefully better charging capabilities. Stay tuned for more updates as we get them, and read our full coverage of Whoop 4.0 here.
